Attention Deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The quickest way to define ADHD is a lack of dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is what tells your brain you’ve done a good thing and gives you a reward. Having a lack of this can make life a little bit more difficult.
ADHD is different for everyone though, although the symptoms my present themselves similarly in each of us, we all have a different experience when it comes down to it. Wether you’re someone who has it themselves or a loved one standing by their side, everyone has a different story to tell.
Let’s look at the symptoms in general:
Unable to sit still and pay attention.
Impulsivity.
Fidgeting.
Talkative.
Daydreamer.
Lack of concentration.
Forgetful.
Struggle to manage emotions.
These are some of the main symptoms of ADHD but as I stated before everyone has a different experience with ADHD.
I believe that the ADHD brain is majorly misunderstood along with many of the other neurodivergent brains out there, and throughout my life I have come across many people who have different ideas of what it means to have it and where it even comes from in the first place.
Is it biological or environmental? There’s so much research going into this question as we speak and so many arguments for and against each option. On top of this ADHD also presents itself differently in those who were born male and those who were born female.
This all sounds very confusing Hannah, I hear you say. You’re not wrong my friend. There are so many factors contributing towards ADHD and we haven’t got one straight answer.
That’s why I’m here…to try and work it all out!
So we have all the typical signs and symptoms of ADHD, but what about the more obscure signs and symptoms?
